Selected dates May & Sept
Day 1. Kununurra, Purnululu National Park
Departing Kununurra, fly over Lake Argyle, the largest artificial lake in the Southern Hemisphere. Marvel at the Bungle Bungle Range as you get closer to the remote airstrip at Purnululu National Park. On arrival, your APT local guide will transfer you to the exclusive Bungle Bungle Wilderness Lodge located within the National Park. Enjoy an impressive Kimberley sunset with drinks in hand, overlooking the Bungle Bungle escarpment as the colours of sandstone deepen to red.
Day 2. Purnululu National Park, Echidna Chasm, Mini Palms
Today you will explore the northern section of Purnululu National Park. Follow a dry creek bed to reveal the Livistona palm-fringed Echidna Chasm. Venture deep into this natural cleft in the rock, which in places is over 200 metres deep yet barely wide enough to pass through. Next you will tackle The Escarpment, a trail that skirts the edge of the Bungle Bungle massif before joining the Mini Palms track. Head back to your wilderness lodge and relax before a delicious three-course dinner.
Day 3. Purnululu National Park, Piccaninny Creek, Cathedral Gorge
After breakfast head to the southern end of Purnululu National Park. Walk along the dry riverbed of Piccaninny Creek for a closer inspection of the striped beehive domes arriving at The Window, a natural hole in the ancient rock formation. Marvel at the majesty of Cathedral Gorge and test out the acoustics of this natural amphitheatre. Follow the trail to this awe inspiring grotto set deep within the sandstone massif. Perhaps take an optional helicopter sightseeing flight over the Bungle Bungle Range (own expense).
Day 4. Purnululu National Park, Kununurra
After breakfast, take a scenic flight back to Kununurra. From the air see Argyle Diamond Mine, which produces one third of the world’s diamonds. Land back in Kununurra, where your Kimberley adventure concludes today.
