Mitchell Falls & Kalumuburu Road
The Mitchell River National Park is home to the famous Mitchell Falls and is a destination for many adventure travellers. The Mitchell Plateau and Mitchell Falls are accessible via the Kalumburu Road which is off the Gibb River Road. The junction of the Gibb River Road and Kalumburu Road is located in the heart of the Kimberley at 416kms from Derby and 243kms from the eastern end of the Gibb River Road. The Kalumburu Road and Mitchell Plateau road are generally not accessible until May each year but this does vary depending upon the wet season. Road conditions vary and extreme care should taken..
Visitors to the area should allow plenty of time and be self-sufficient if camping. For those travellers seeking more comfort, accommodation is available at the Mitchell Falls Wilderness Lodge and Drysdale River Station. It is imperative that accommodation is booked in advance as you cannot arrive and hope for the best!
We recommend a minimum 2 night stay at either accommodation.
