Broome's annual Mango Festival is coming!

  • Posted by on 3 November 2014

The end of November is much looked forward to each year in the Kimberley, and in particular in Broome, when the Broome Lion's Club present their annual Mango Festival.

The first mangoes of the season are highly anticipated - particularly if you have a mango tree in your garden with a crop of luscious fruit!  For the next 6-8 weeks we spend out spare time cutting up mangoes to freeze, puree, dry, make  jam, ice-cream, desserts, salads and slurp breakfast or lunchtime smoothies...and that is other than just indulging in the flesh of this wonderful tropical fruit.  By storing mangoes in various ways means that over the winter /dry season months, and there are no mangoes around, you can go into your secret stash and enjoy!

Broome's Mango Festival offers numerous ways to try the different ways people use mangoes - from cocktails to jams, cakes, chutneys and beer!   If you are in Broome at the end of November, find out what events are on - and get into those mangoes!
